During a community visit to Assyakirin Mosque in Singapore, Her Excellency Mdm Halimah Yacob was gifted with our Batik print inspired by traditional textiles of the Malay Archipelago.
Batik textiles are often regarded as formalities in some regional customs and cultures – namely in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei. In 2009, UNESCO recognised Batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity as a means to encourage local communities to safeguard and sustain unique cultural expressions. We firmly believe that the celebration of these motifs and textiles are crucial in the representation of our people.
The composition of the piece takes after an open page of a Quran or Kitab and vibrant blue flowers are adorned with shimmering green and blue Swarovski crystals. The piece reads “The best of people are those that bring the most benefit to the rest of mankind” – Prophet Muhammad saw.
