The Making of “Surah Imran”

IMG_7828.jpg

I believe that when you are entrusted with a culture, it is your duty to not only protect but also encourage the commemoration of it.

Taking inspiration from the transformative character of nature and its remarkable elements, I depicted motifs such as corals, leaves, clouds and water in the familiar batik style.

The synchronicity and orchestration of these forces that culminate life on earth is something that I have always marvelled at – the push and pull, and the changing of seasons like two trusting partners in an elegant but powerful waltz. In a spiritual sense, these forces are choreographed by Al Malik (The King / The Eternal Lord – The One who possesses power in the dominions)

The process of creating the border for my Surah Imran piece was a lengthy one and spanned a period of 4 months.

A colourful selection of Swarovski crystals were studded on the piece to add a gentle sparkle to the rich borders that surround the Islamic text. An ode to the flowers I imagine in our Paradise (Jannah).
